Contents of an Achievement Overview
Information
The 1000 word Achievement Overview is endorsed by your manager and submitted for assessment by your peers. The Achievement Overview can describe one of the following initiatives/projects/achievements which would not have happened without your input.
A complex and significant collaboration/ strategic partnership that met the intended goals of the parties
For example: a deliberate, planned partnership between a knowledge-based organisation and a company/ corporation, charity, cultural body, government agency, or other organisation leading to the transfer of knowledge, and tangible benefits for the partner/ society marked by the development of strategic agreements and senior-level endorsement and recognition of the partnership within both organisations.
The Overview should include the following elements:
- Description of the partnership
- Size and scope of the initiative (including financial value if relevant)
- Types of agreements concluded
- Commitment or investment of resources by your organisation and the external partner and level of senior management engagement
- The benefit of the collaboration for the partner and/or its impact on society (for example generation of new customers and revenues, new products, new investment, new people engaged, income/ profits, documented impacts on society)
- Your specific role in leading and developing the partnership, clearly differentiating activity from outcome and showing how you have demonstrated relevant core RTTP competencies.
A complex and significant commercial outcome which would not have happened without your input
For example: licensing of IP; creation and development of a spin-out company; delivering a major consultancy project; leading a major contract research arrangement(s) marked by external investment and/ or impact in a market/ or increased value for shareholders/ stakeholders.
The Overview should include the following elements:
- Description of the outcome
- Financial value of the outcome
- Types of agreements concluded
- Commitment or investment of external resources in the outcome eg venture funds, seed corn, corporate funds
- The benefit of the outcome for the partner and/ or its impact on society
- Your specific role in making the outcome happen, clearly
differentiating activity from outcome showing how you have demonstrated relevant core RTTP competencies.
A significant knowledge transfer initiative that resulted in new capacity, structures, funding, incentives or other developments that enable demonstrable knowledge transfer/ knowledge exchange outcomes.
For example: the establishment of a knowledge transfer network or community such as a sector network or a national or regional association; creation of a funding scheme to facilitate knowledge transfer such as a proof of concept scheme or venture fund; establishing a corporate venturing programme; creating an enterprise or entrepreneurship programme; leading an incubation or acceleration process; establishing schemes to encourage development of professionals including people exchange between organisations to encourage knowledge sharing/exchange; or sustained development of structured professional development training ie courses or course material, marked by improved outcomes for the communities involved.
The Overview should include the following elements:
- Description of the initiative
Size and scope of the initiative (including financial value if relevant) - Types of agreements/ structures used in the initiative
- Commitment or investment of external resources in the outcome eg regional or national government funding, industry funding, funds committed jointly by partners
- The benefit of the initiative and its impact on society
- Your specific role in leading and developing the initiative, clearly differentiating activity from outcome showing how you have demonstrated relevant core RTTP competencies.
Sustained Leadership of KE/KT/TT activity over a number of years, leading a team(s) which has delivered significant KE/KT/TT outcomes due to the specialist knowledge, skills and experience provided by your leadership.
Applicants are expected to be senior leaders in the profession with at least five years’ leadership experience. They must be able to show significant leadership demonstrated through long-term performance improvements, effective shaping and management of resources within their organisation(s) and sustained track record of their team(s)’s outcomes.
The Overview should include the following elements:
- The type of leadership role that they have held over a minimum period of 5 years
- The size and scope of the team that they manage (including financial responsibility if relevant)
- The types and volume of work that the team undertakes
- The amount of commitment, investment of resources and level of senior management engagement that they have managed to secure for their team
- The outcomes of the work of the team in terms of their track record ie key KE
- Initiatives, key projects, key partners, key deals and new investment
- Their specific role in leading and developing the team, and specifically how they can demonstrate relevant core RTTP competencies – ie that their knowledge and practice of KE/KT/TTO differentiates them from a generic team manager
